Frequently Asked Questions

  • Starting therapy is a courageous step towards improving your mental health and well-being. If you're new to therapy, here's what you can expect:

    Initial Consultation

Assessment and Goals: In your first session, I will conduct an initial assessment to understand your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This helps me create a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific needs.

Establishing Connection: Establishing a comfortable and trusting relationship is crucial. You'll have the opportunity to ask me questions, share your expectations, and we can discuss any concerns you may have about the therapy process. I firmly believe that finding the right therapist for you is essential to therapy being effective. If it doesn't feel like I'm the right fit, I am happy to help you find someone who is.

    During Sessions

Safe and Confidential Environment: Therapy sessions provide a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space where you can openly discuss your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Active Participation: Therapy is a collaborative process. We will work to explore your struggles, develop insights, and create strategies for change. Active participation and openness to the process are key to achieving positive outcomes.

    Progress and Feedback

Regular Check-Ins: Periodically, we will check in about how our work is feeling, discuss what's working, and adjust our approach if needed. Open communication about your experience is essential to ensure that therapy is effective for you.

Ongoing Commitment: The length and frequency of therapy vary depending on your goals and needs. Some individuals use therapy to address a specific concern, while others use it as an ongoing space for self reflection and support.

    Common Feelings and Experiences

Emotional Ups and Downs: It's normal to experience a range of emotions during therapy. Some sessions might be challenging and bring up difficult feelings, while others may leave you feeling relieved and empowered.

Gradual Change: Personal growth and change often happen gradually, and healing is very rarely linear. Patience and commitment to the process are important as you work towards your goals.

  • All sessions are currently virtual via Zoom. I typically travel to New York quarterly and love to see clients in person when I am there.

  • My primary goal is to provide you with the highest quality of care tailored to your individual needs, and as a result I do not accept insurance.

    Personalized and Unrestricted Care

Flexibility in Treatment: Insurance companies often place restrictions on the type and duration of therapy, which can limit the effectiveness of the treatment. By not accepting insurance, I can tailor my therapeutic approach to best meet your unique needs without constraints.

Confidentiality and Privacy: Your privacy is my top priority. Insurance companies require detailed records and personal information, which can compromise confidentiality. By opting out of insurance, I ensure that your personal and therapeutic information remains strictly confidential.

    Reimbursement Options

Superbills: While I do not accept insurance directly, I do provide detailed receipts (superbills) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your benefits and the process for reimbursement. If you have any questions or need assistance with reimbursement processes, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sliding Scale Fee: I understand that therapy is a significant financial commitment. To make this service more accessible, I offer a limited number of sliding scale fees based on individual circumstances.

If you have any questions or need assistance with reimbursement processes, please do not hesitate to ask.
